Fresh Start Outreach Service’s story began in 2007 through Restoration for Destiny Ministries, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to serve individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.
Its early community work included food and clothing assistance, employment-search support, childcare assistance, social-service referrals, résumé preparation, interview preparation, mentorship, and other practical services. The mission expanded into Indiana and surrounding Chicago communities, where the organization’s 4Rs Daycare Center supported families and participated in community-centered educational and family-support initiatives.
After relocating to Virginia, the organization continued serving communities throughout the Tidewater region through outreach to homeless individuals, families living in shelters, children, unemployed adults, and other underserved populations.
Over time, Fresh Start became increasingly focused on helping families transition toward greater stability and addressing the impact incarceration can have on individuals, children, and entire families.
Today, Fresh Start Outreach Service combines its original heart for reconciliation with an expanding model of reentry and community reintegration, workforce development, occupational skills training, entrepreneurship, financial education, coaching and mentorship, housing stabilization initiatives, technology access, employment readiness, community partnerships, media and storytelling, and personal and professional development.
The tools have expanded, but the assignment has remained the same:

Helping individuals recognize that their future can be greater than the mistakes, circumstances, rejection, or adversity of their past.
Connecting people with resources, skills, relationships, opportunities, and support systems that can help rebuild stability.
Helping participants rediscover confidence, purpose, motivation, personal responsibility, and a vision for what comes next.
Supporting healthier relationships between individuals, families, employers, communities, and the systems necessary for successful reintegration.

Successful reintegration can require occupational skills, transportation, stable housing, mentoring, financial knowledge, emotional support, employment opportunities, business guidance, accountability, and someone willing to believe that meaningful transformation is possible. Fresh Start exists to help connect those pieces.
